Remembrance Day
This afternoon, I climbed on the bike and pedalled the 7 km / 4.5 miles north to the Eerbeekseweg. There, you'll find a memorial to the crew of a Lancaster bomber which crashed there during the night of June 14th/15th, 1943, with the loss of all on board. This year, a restored Lancaster flew over the crash site - three times, as opposed to the promised twice. The crew probably realised that there were more than 50 people (including myself) to see them. Afterwards, the mayor read out a statement on behalf of us all, acknowledging the sacrifice made by the crew to enable us to live in freedom today.
