Another reasonable day, and our walk ended up a jaunt down memory lane. Upon traversing the woods on the outskirts of the town of Velp, we came across the remains of the old swimming pool which closed in 1988. When I was a child, I was a frequent visitor in summer, learning to swim, sunning myself on the meadow and frolicking in the water. The structures are still there, like the tower for the high jump, the boiler house and the fountain in the playpool. But the pools are full of dirty water, the poolsides overgrown with ivy. Made me a bit sad. However, we carried on and managed to clock up a respectable total of just shy of 6 km or 3½ miles.
