The big ride
As summer has arrived in Holland, my dad and I went on a cycle ride on Tuesday. I did not set out expecting it to stretch to 40 miles or so, but it did. It was quite a varied run, starting in the Heathlands north of Arnhem, then to the forests east towards the town of Dieren (10 miles northeast of Arnhem). We crossed the River IJssel by ferry, then wound our way along the eastern bank of this river to the motorway bridge near Velp, which includes a cyclepath. Left home at 10.45 am, to return at 4.30pm, with a couple of stops along the way for refreshments, including lunch and icecreams. There were hundreds of other cyclists about, and everybody appeared to be enjoying themselves.
